About Heather

Heather J. Shpak is a registered speech-language pathologist who loves providing speech-language therapy to children and their families.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Heather obtained a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Psychology at the University of Winnipeg in 2001. From there, Heather traveled to the University of Western Ontario in London where she earned her Master of Clinical Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders (Speech-Language Pathology) in 2004.

Heather is a Full Regulated member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba and is certified with Speech-Language & Audiology Canada. She is an International Affiliate with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and also holds a speech and hearing school clinician certificate with Manitoba Education.

Prior to entering private practice, Heather worked for Capital Health/Alberta Health Services in Edmonton, Alberta where she provided speech-language therapy to school-aged children and their families. In January 2009, Heather returned home to Winnipeg and between 2009 and 2013 filled a variety of positions in the Winnipeg and Seven Oaks School Divisions. Heather has experience working with children of all ages in both mainstream and special education environments. She is able to collaborate with a range of professionals including parents, teachers, psychologists, audiologists, social workers, and reading clinicians.

Heather chose to enter private practice in 2011 in order to offer families more flexibility in type and location of service. Heather aims to involve parents/caregivers in the therapy sessions so that they can better help their loved ones improve their communication skills.

Since 2017, Heather has served on committees of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba. In her free time Heather enjoys reading, visiting with friends and family, and volunteering in her church community.
