Telepractice
Telepractice is the delivery of service over electronic means. Virtual therapy is an option for anyone in Manitoba with a reliable internet connection. The best candidates for virtual therapy are school-age children and adults who are able to maintain focus behind the computer screen for a minimum of 30 minutes. Virtual therapy also works well for consultations to parents for how to develop their child’s speech and language skills at home. Virtual appointments can be scheduled in 30, 45, or 60 minute blocks. Secure platforms are used for the sessions.
In order for a child to participate in telepractice, a parent will need to be nearby to help with technology, materials, and/or behavior management. Parents may also need to receive and print materials for the child prior to the session.
Some families may wish to use a combination of virtual and in-person appointments for their child.
